The Toro Greensmaster 3 is a triplex greens mower used for mowing greens, tees, collars, approaches, fairways and other fine turf areas like ballfield infields or grass tennis courts. The Greensmaster 3 is the first triplex greens mower produced by Toro. First introduced in 1970, it was produced until 1984.
Characteristics[]
The Greensmaster 3 is a 3-wheeled triplex mower, powered by an air cooled engine delivering 12 horsepower at 3600 RPM. The traction drive system consists of stacked gear pumps delivering flow through an open center valve bank to two orbital gear motors that drive the front wheels. The hydraulic valve consists of seven spool sections, 5 controlling lowering, lift and mowing functions of the cutting units. Spools 6 and 7 control the traction functions via direct linkage from a hand shift lever, with two forward speeds and one reverse: 1, used for mowing; 2 used for transport; and reverse. Six inch drum mechanical drum brakes provide braking, with a foot operated parking brake.
Mowing, lift and lower functions are controlled by two foot pedals: mow and lift. The mow pedal initiates lowering the cutting units, with a variable orifice delaying lowing of the rear cutting unit allowing for all three cutting units to drop in line while the unit is moving. Once all the cutting unit lift cylinders are fully extended, a detent in the valve bank holds the first three valve sections open and full flow goes to the reel motors, spinning the reels at approximately 1800 RPM. The cutting units are raised by operating the lift pedal, which first shuts off the flow to the reel motors and then allows flow to raise the cutting units to the raised position.
The hydraulic system has a 6 gallon tank, located directly behind the operator's seat, in front of the 5 gallon fuel tank, and has a 33 micron cartridge oil filter.
Cutting units[]
The fully floating cutting units are positioned in front of each of the tires, two in front, one in the rear. A carrier frame, supported by a solid roller, is connected to the cutting units by direct linkage that pulls the cutting units while carrying a grass collection basket. Individual lift cylinders raise and lower the cutting units by a lift arm that floats in a cutting unit carrier hoop.
Cutting units feature fixed 5" diameter, 21" wide 8 bladed reels, with 4 bolt bedknife adjusters. Cutting units have macro adjust rear rollers with infinitely adjustable front rollers.
